Managua the Capital of Nicaragua

Describing Managua isn't the easiest thing to do.  The place is absolutely nuts, but a very vital area to all of us that reside in Nicaragua.  The driving is absolutely insane and keep in mind that when you visit the mph gauge in the car is in Kilometers as well as the mile markers are kilometer markers.  The city is loaded with a little of everything from nightmares to luxuries. The area of Managua is filled with people from all walks of life and it was my first experience with street hustlers.  The street hustlers will come all the way up to your window selling a variety of goods from homemade treats, drinks, sunglasses, etc and don't forget about the ones that are just plain beggars.

In Managua you can find a huge variety of foods from many different cultures and tons  of North American chain restaurants are here.  So if you have a hankering for food from back home, then Managua is the place to cure these urges. Some of the names are TGI Fridays, McDonalds, Quiznos, Burger King, Subway and Pizza Hut. Lord knows Managua isn't short on pizza !

Managua has tons of casinos to pass a few hours away in, or perhaps some serious winnings if your a die hard gambler.  I myself am not that into it. I have went twice now and I find it a  humorous way to pass an hour or two with very little investment.

My first stay was at the Best Western across from the airport in Managua.  Average costs runs around $100 a night but with its close convenience and free breakfast its kind of hard to complain.  The rooms are clean, with nice hot showers, air conditioned rooms and cable tv.  One of my favorite things about this place is that it has a salon and massage therapist on the site. I got a hair wash, hair cut, manicure and pedicure and massage for about $45.00.  If thats not enough for you then stroll over to the large pool for a few hours or check out the gift shop.

So as time has past over the last 14 months I have discovered a few hidden gems in Managua from shopping, or buying specialty foods, encounters with Fed- Ex, vehicle repairs and much more and I will slowly over time in this blog begin discussing my experiences as they occurred and in as much detail as possible...........
